Josh Greene is the vice president of Government and industry affairs and is primarily responsible for monitoring and influencing legislation that impacts A. O. Smith and the water heating industry, as well as ensuring the company’s positions on legislation and regulations are known to elected officials and Federal regulators. He also works with the company’s corporate development and innovation teams, as well as helping to direct and support the company’s Political Action Committee.  

Get to know Josh…  

Q: Where are you originally from?
A: I’m originally from New York City, 4th generation.  

Q: When did you start working for A. O. Smith?
A.: In February 2016 I started in my current role, although for eight years I worked as outside legal counsel for A. O. Smith.  

Q: What is your current role at A. O. Smith?
A: I’m the Vice President of Government and Industry Affairs.  

Q: Describe your role and responsibilities?
A: My role is to do advocacy in Washington representing A. O. Smith within our trade associations and with federal agencies as well. I will continue to build out Government and Industry Affairs, building relationships with government at the local and federal level. I am also raising our innovation and product profile within other industry organizations as well as our sustainability profile.  On the flip side, I also bring my lawyer’s hat by working with corporate development leaders Chuck Lauber, and Dr. Bob Heideman on new possibilities with business scopes including A. O. Smith’s role in the smart grid.

Q: Little known fact about yourself (that you don’t mind other people knowing)
A:  My favorite movie is Hunt for the Red October. I watch it every time it’s on and I’ve seen it over 50 times.

Q: What hobbies do you have outside of A. O. Smith?
A: I enjoy doing just about anything outdoors; sports, recreation, hiking, and biking.  I’m a former athlete, a football player for the University of Delaware where I share alumnus status with Vice President Joe Biden and NFL Super Bowl MVP Joe Flacco.

Q: What do you like best about working at A. O. Smith?
A: I like working with the people.

Q: What’s the most interesting part of your job?
A: I think the most interesting part of my job is trying to anticipate the challenges for the company from a regulatory perspective.

Q: Who inspires you inside or outside of the company?
A: I’ve visited many of the manufacturing facilities in Tennessee, its inspiring when I walk the floors seeing people working hard to make our product.  They do their jobs with such enthusiasm.  It’s inspiring to see how things are made and how easy they make it look, even though it’s a complex process.  

Q: What is the wisest thing anyone has ever told you and how has it helped you?
A: “Never look back to change anything, it won’t change; keep your eyes forward,” my father told me.

Q: Where would you love to travel and why?
A: I would love to go to British Columbia.  From everything I’ve seen it’s beautiful and family has said its beautiful and a place to be at peace.  

Q: If you could meet any person, dead or alive, who would it be?
A: Meeting my great, great grandfather on my father’s side. I think it would make me better appreciate my father and what he had to go through.
