A. O. Smith names Peter Martineau chief information officer


Peter MartineauMilwaukee, Wis.—A. O. Smith Corporation (NYSE:AOS) today announced the appointment of Peter R. Martineau as senior vice president-chief information officer.

In his new role, Martineau will be responsible for all of A. O. Smith’s global business systems and will lead the newly created Business and Technology Solutions organization.  The new organization will work with each of the company’s business units to identify and deploy the information technology solutions to achieve the company’s strategic objectives.

“Peter brings wide-ranging knowledge of our business, processes, markets, and customers to this critical new role and is uniquely qualified to lead us through this transformation,” Ajita G. Rajendra, chairman and chief executive officer, said in making the announcement.

Martineau replaces Randall Bednar, who retired after serving for 15 years as chief information officer of the Milwaukee-based water technology company.

Martineau has served as vice president-business transformation since January 2013.  In that position, he has led a major company-wide ERP systems implementation effort.  He joined A. O. Smith as part of the company’s acquisition of GSW/American Water Heaters in April 2006.  Since joining A. O. Smith, he has held positions of increasing responsibility including director of finance and vice president-customer service for the company’s North American water heater operations. 

Prior to the acquisition, he had been with the GSW/American Water Heater business since 1995; his last position was senior vice president-finance and chief financial officer of American Water Heaters.  Before joining GSW, he was vice president-finance and administration for Canadian Bearings, Ltd., a leading industrial supplier headquartered in Mississauga, Ontario.

A native of Canada, Martineau earned his bachelor’s degree in accountancy and business administration from Concordia University, Montreal, Quebec, and a master’s in public accountancy from McGill University, Montreal.  He also has the certified public accountant (CPA) designation.
