A. O. Smith reelected as Top 30 China Best Employer

Nanjing, China—A. O. Smith’s operations in China are members of an elite group, listed as one of the Top 30 China Best Employers. The 2016 companies list included a number of well-known international names such as IBM, Starbucks, Ikea, and Tencent.

The annual competition is sponsored by recruitment website Zhaopin.com, and companies are evaluated on four criteria: comprehensive employee survey (60%); expert accreditation (10%); public survey (20%); and a human resources management questionnaire (10%). A. O. Smith was selected based on its equal enterprise environment, diverse promotion ways, and 142-year-old enterprise culture. The awards were announced in December at Haitang Bay, Sanya.

This is the second time A. O. Smith has been included in the Top 30 China Best Employer list.  It has been part of the Top 100 China Best Employer listing for a total of five years. 

Among the reasons given for A. O. Smith’s selection to the Top 30 group were:

  • Its innovative human resources practices including its comprehensive performance review and career development processes, internal job bidding system, selection process for group leaders, and employee recognition programs;
  • Unique career development and management development strategies for college recruits, engineers, and specialized research technologies.  In addition, the company identifies and cultivates talent through leadership training activities;
  • Ongoing focus on the company’s enterprise values of “employee satisfaction,” “customer satisfaction,” “shareholder satisfaction,” and “community satisfaction” as well as holding a number of activities to promote and reinforce the company’s culture.  The company offers a formal continuous improvement (CI) initiative to encourage employee ideas and engagement.  

In addition, A. O. Smith was presented with “2016 Top 100 China Exemplary Employer” and “Exemplary Employer for employees’ development plan” by 51job.com.  A. O. Smith was recognized for its culture, values, and standards, as well as its innovative HR management through talent attraction and retention, positive employee development and cultivation plan, competitive performance, and salary system.  

Known as the “Oscar” of human resources field, Zhaopin.com-China Best Employer Award is the biggest and most authoritative employer selection activity in China. The China Best Employer competition began in 2005 to promote the development of employer brands in China. In 2016, the Zhaopin.com introduced the concept, “New Employee Economy,” recognizing workplaces with similar values, intimate employment relationships, and outstanding empowerment structure.
