"Our selection committee chose Phil for this Award for his selfless dedication to the children of fallen U.S. servicemembers, through A Soldier’s Child Foundation," said Kevin Wheeler, chairman, president & CEO. "Like many of ASC’s donors and volunteers, Phil’s involvement began in tragedy close to home, when a neighbor on active duty was killed in action, leaving behind a wife and children. In giving of his time, talent and treasure, Phil is helping ASC in its mission to give 'love to the child left behind, honor for the memory of the fallen and a hope for the children to live a courageous life,' for 4,500 children each year, including more than 300 in Tennessee alone."
"I'm proud that Phil is actively helping others by taking time to be there for children that don't have a parent, by teaching a life skill, giving advice and just spending time with them, on the golf course or in the woods," said Bob Filipovic, who nominated Phil for the Award. "Besides being a monthly donor, he has been involved in setting up birthday celebrations, hunting trips, and golf outings."
"The ASC staff is thrilled to see that Phil is being recognized for the excellent work he does in giving back to the children who have lost a parent in the military," said Cathy Stufflebean, ASC director of operations. "He has mentored our recipient children at our hunt camps for over five years, and words cannot express what a great friend Phil is to these children and the ASC staff. Not only does he give his time to ASC, but he also gives monetarily to the foundation. What an all-around great person!"
“I couldn’t imagine where I would be today without the leadership of my parents, and these children have lost a parent or parents while defending our freedom,” Phil said. “Giving back to these kids for their sacrifice is the least I can do. I am truly honored to be the recipient of this award and for the recognition given to ASC. Love, Honor, Hope—it’s all about the kids!!!”
